How You Can Help Your Child's Learning

In the early years, parental involvement has a significant impact on children’s cognitive development and literacy and number skills

Children have two main educators in their lives –their parents /guardians and their teachers. Parents/guardians are the prime educators until the child attends nursery or starts school and remain a major  influence on their children’s learning through school and beyond. There is no clear line to show where the parents’ input stops and the teachers’ input begins  Pre-School, Schools and Parents all have crucial roles to play and the impact is greater if parents and education establishments work in partnership.

The Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE) Project is a large scale longitudinal study which monitors 2,800 children's progress across the range of preschool provision to entry to reception class. After controlling for the impact of parents' occupations and education, aspects of the home learning environment were found to have a significant impact on children's cognitive   development both at age 3 years plus and again at school entry.

No one will ever know your child as well as do. It is important that parents/carers communicate with their child’s key person regularly to share their children’s needs and interests in order to help the pre-school build up an accurate and valuable picture of your child. The more information we have the better supported your child will be.

We totally understand that in today’s society people lead extremely busy lives. If you are unable to speak to us in person you can communicate with us via email info@thorpenurserypreschool.co.uk You can also use the parent portal to share with us your children’s achievements, things you have done together a new interest, special moment or anything you would like to share.

The staff team all look forward to working with you and your family.

Building sentences

Putting words together is a vital skill for having conversations and telling stories.

It is a 9-week course in which three times a week, a small group of children will be taking part in two exciting activities, a song, and a story. We will be sending the stories home each week with the children to share them at home. During the 9 weeks the children will get to meet Jake and Tizzy who are part of our stories and making learning fun!  If your child is selected to take part in the programme, you will be given an invitation and permission slip.
